Death In His Grave

This is one of my favorite songs from John Mark McMillan. Death in His Grave speaks about the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus in a way I had never heard before. Have a listen:

Recently John Mark blogged about this song and gave a line by line commentary. I was super stoked to hear that he was doing this...and when he posted it, I was not disappointed. If you're interested, here's the link. For me, it is really eye opening to see the actual depth of this song. I love it even more. Hope you do, too.

p.s. 4/22 I kinda wish I could've been there in that little crowd when they were doing this video. Even in the back, that would've been good enough. I also realize that I would have been the only non white person there. That would've been cool, too.

Eh, What kine slippas U get?

So lately I've been wearing slippers more often. I don't know why. For a really really really long time my preference has been shoes.  Ask my wife...she'll tell you.  But recently I've been going with slippers.  Maybe cause it's been super humid lately? And also maybe cause I don't want to turn on the fan or the A/C (I am half Chinese)?  Anyway, I've been thinking about getting a new pair cause what I have sort of works, but nothing that I would call the "perfect pair". Is there even such a thing?  Well, here's what I'm working with:

da Rainbows (left), da Cobians (center), & da Locals (right)
On the right, we have the classic pair of 'locals'.  I think everyone who lives in Hawaii has one of these (or has had one of these). These are actually the more upgraded kine with the 'massager' bumps for your feet. I actually didn't really like it at first. But after a while, I got used to them. These are good for the everyday at home stuff. Wash car, throw away trash, go do laundry, killing bugs, etc. They are a must have in any home.

In the middle we have the black buss up 'Cobians'. Now these were pretty comfortable. They also have five or so pukas (after looking at the picture, looks like they have 7 pukas) in the slipper to let water drain. At the time, I thought this was really cool. Especially for all the times I go to the beach and stuff...I don't actually go to the beach a lot...BUT I DO actually like these. So maybe I might get another pair of these...or something similar. The only thing about these are that after a while, the black kinda rubbed off on to my feet, so by where the straps would go on my feet, there was all kind of black stuff. Maybe that is the sign to buy a new pair?  But I don't remember if it was always like that or if it just did that towards the end of it's life...or maybe after it got wet a couple times? I'm not sure. Anyway that's that one.

Finally we have the brown pair of 'Rainbows'!  Now these were supposed to be the pair to last forever. Which is a big reason I have not gotten new slippers.  CAUSE I BOUGHT THESE TO LAST FOREVER! That's what the website says:
http://www.rainbowsandals.com/guarantee.aspx
* Our Warranty is for the Lifetime of the sole. As long as you haven't worn into the next layer of the sole from either the top or bottom*

Actually I guess that's not what the website says. hmmm...anyway for the sake of this blog that's what we'll say it says....SO AS I WAS SAYING...it's supposed to last forever!  But besides lasting forever, a few of my friends said that they were super comfortable too.  So I bit the bullet and spent a little more than I normally would have on THESE SLIPPERS.  My main complaint is that they are kinda too slippery.  Slippery slippers...hahaha right.  But what I mean is that I always feel like I'm sliding, especially when walking up hill / up an incline.  DISCLAIMER: I did leave these in my car for a while...and the sun & heat MIGHT HAVE dried them out...so that could have had something to do with it...actually that's probably why they're so dry.  It's all my fault.  Anyway regardless of the cause of the dryness of the slippers, the fact remains that they are slippery.

Now I've actually been wearing da Rainbows the past couple of weeks and they ARE getting a little better.  Kinda forming to my feet and getting a little more comfy and because I paid so much for them, I most likely won't buy a new pair...cause in my mind, these Rainbows are supposed to LAST FOREVER.  But I was wondering if anybody had a favorite pair or brand of slippas?  I am curious.

What kine slippas U get?

Lord Save Us From Your Followers

I watched this movie a couple years ago and I don't really know why, but I kinda been thinking about it again. If you've seen it, great. If not, I would say check it out. It's very thought provoking.

Here is a sampler clip from their YouTube Channel. If you only watch this, you'll have a pretty good idea of what Dan Merchant was/is trying to do...BUT there are a lot of other great stories in the full version. Have a watch and if you have the time, let me know what you think...good or bad. Thanks. - J

TOMS shoes

Does anybody own a pair of TOMS? Do you like them? I think the next pair of shoes that I buy will be a pair of TOMS. I've been looking at these Ash Waxed Twill Men's Cordones for a little while. The only thing is I don't know how to pronounce that last word. Is it like: KOR-DOE-N-S? Or KOR-DOE-NEH-S? KOR-DOE-NEH-S would definitely be the funnier pronunciation, for sure!  If you know the answer, can you help me out?  I would be really grateful.

So probably most of you have heard about TOMS SHOES. If not, here is the really great thing about them:

TOMS shoes is something else that gets me thinking about the things that I buy and the effects of that purchase beyond myself. Unlike like my bottled water deal however TOMS has a positive affect on the world...and that is good. I don't know everything about everything that I have, but I gotta start somewhere. So why not shoes? I do realize that providing shoes for one child is not much when considering all of the problems in the world.  But for me it represents a more important thing: a mindset change. That instead of making purchases only for my own benefit, in simple and ordinary things I do from day to day (such as buying shoes or not buying bottled water) I can intentionally affect the lives of others in a positive way.

So back to the top...Do you have a pair and do you like them?

Or what is something that you support?

I want to know.

Song time

So here's the song I wrote for my wife (Tiana). I have a few reservations about putting this up. But I called this blog stories, notes, & songs...so I gotta put up a song at least once.  Actually maybe at least twice cause songs is plural.  DOUGH!  BTW do you know how hard it is to put up a song w/ just a media player?  Well whatever the answer, it's too hard for me.  It's weird that you can post a video which has pictures AND sound, but you can't just upload an mp3 (just sound) easily to blogger.  You might be asking, well why didn't you just use the camera on your computer?  Well, I would say to you that I have a phobia of that.

One more thing, just want to give the photo credit to my friend: Mel Canite...thanks Mel! (@Mel, I'll remove the pic if you want me to) AND w/o further ado...

Did you hear where I messed up?  (The lyrics are here) AND I don't know what I was doing there at the end...I get nervous easily.   Haha.

(Love you, Tiana)

Can you believe this?

Thankfully after a short conversation w/ my cousin, I found out this was a hoax. He linked me to an article and you can read it here.

If you don't want to go there, here's some quick notes:
- this was an actual presentation at the inaugural "Venture Capital Fundraising Club of Silicon Valley"
- someone (not the actress) created a Rachel Sequoia Twitter account and now has more than 2000 followers (that's crazy)
- Also someone else not involved with the hoax project bought the domain name sharetheair108.com and started accepting sign-ups. (crazy as well...that someone did that AND that people are signing up)

As I watched this a couple of times...and also prompted by the comment of my cousin, it got me thinking about some stuff. Mainly the issue of 'greed'. At first, I had no idea where this presentation was going. I was thinking, "ok kinda hippyish girl making a presentation on air quality to some business people." Then the SALES PITCH came and I was totally caught off guard...and thought, "Man, people must be desperate if they buy into this." And apparently as proved by the above linked article, people are.

But how can you do that? How can you own air?  To me it sounds crazy.  In fact it is crazy that there were/are people willing to invest money to attempt to do this!

Segue (fyi, before I used spell check this word looked like this: Segway) to my cousin's point about how similar this is to the start up of bottled water and it got me thinking of the documentary BlueGold.  It basically says that the bottled water industry is causing the earth to become a desert. We are using the resource faster than it can be replenished.  This documentary might be biased conspiracy theory to some, but what is the argument FOR bottled water?  Watch the trailer or better yet, watch the movie itself and please convince me that bottled water it is a good thing.  I don't want to believe stuff like this is happening in the world.

Sorry this post got so depressing.

Anybody know a good joke?

Signing off (w/ a wave of my hand...haha!  Oh wait it actually doesn't work for this blog.  So just regular signing off.)

I Got A Coffee For...

This is supposed to say Jared. haha very funny.
This wasn't today.  But I thought I'd bring it back.  (Coincidentally it's April Fools Day, too.) Do you think those guys at Starbucks play name games or something to help them get through their day?  You know like who can spell the customer's name the most craziest?  IF SO, could the creation of 'GERADE' gone something like this?

Oh Jared is his name, well now let's see 'G' also makes a 'J' sound so that's a good switch and then we'll reverse the middle part of his name so the 'are' will be 'era' and next we'll have the 'D' there towards the end and finally to cap it off as all...THE silent 'E'.  Wow, that is beautifully amazing and amazingly beautiful.  Jared is going to love the new spelling of his name.  I'm quite sure.

Looking at this picture a few times, I noticed you could also pronounce it Ge-Ra-De.  Like jeh-rah-dee...or jeh-rah-deh (I apologize for not knowing how to phonetically spell/sound that out). No silent 'E'.

Anyway, do you have a crazy Starbucks interpretation of your name?  Or do you give fake names?
